Union Pacific freight trains run through New Braunfels which is a very "quaint" aspect of the town that, usually, doesn't cause major inconveniences, and isn't even that loud. Wow that is great, who doesn't love trains and commerce?

However, especially recently, the trains have been stalled and blocking the railroad crossings for up to 45 minutes, making it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to get to or from your house or destination. Either driving, or worse, walking your dog, this frustration has become almost intolerable recently.

NewBraunfelsDogs.com recently found out from our friendly town counsel that there is a simple solution. Call Union Pacific and indicate the crossing ID and they will alert the train to move. I have had to do this 2 times in the past month, and they were polite and immediately moved the train about 100 feet down the line to unblock the intersection, allowing the normal traffic to cross. It was like magic. See number below.

If you are stuck because of a stalled train do this:

Call 1-800-848-8715 and report the crossing ID to them. The crossing ID is located on a tiny sign at each intersection. You have to be really close to read it, unfortunately.

Alternatively, this page allows online reporting. A crossing ID lookup tool should be available.
